Cullman is the county seat of Cullman County. It is on the eastern side of Smith Lake and is the largest city surrounding Smith Lake. Visitors and residents are fond of the Cullman side of Smith Lake because of its proximity to the lake and I-65. Before European settlement, it was part of the Cherokee Nation.
