Bremen is an unincorporated community in Cullman County. It is located on the Southeast side of Smith Lake.
 
The Bremen community was founded with the name Empire in 1860. To prevent confusion with another Empire community in the state, the name was changed in 1879 by the town’s first postmaster, James Macentepe. The name was chosen to honor the city of Bremen, Germany.
